City of Royal Oak Implements Dog Park Access System

Implementation will begin for the dog park access system at the only enclosed dog park in the City of Royal Oak starting September 8, 2009. The City of Royal Oak will begin selling passes (also known as fobs) for the Mark Twain dog park on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 beginning at 8:00 a.m. at the City Clerk’s Office, located at 211 Williams Street. The cost for the annual pass is $50.00 for residents; $75.00 for non-residents non-resident passes are sold-out (which includes a one time fee of $10.00 for the key fob). Please note that replacement key fobs will be an additional $10. Application forms and requirements are available below. Applicants MUST bring proof of the following up-to-date shots: Rabies, DHLP, Bordatella and Parvovirus. Proof of a current dog license is also required. Without proof of current vaccinations and current dog license, passes WILL NOT be issued. All applications must be completed in person at the City Clerk’s Office, no phone or on-line registration will be accepted. The City Clerk’s office is open Monday thru Thursday from 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM and Friday 8:00 AM – Noon.

The access system will improve safety within the park by verifying that the dog is licensed and vaccinated. The city will be limiting the number of passes initially to 500, which includes 75 passes for non-residents. Additional passes may be sold in the future, after an evaluation of the park has been completed.
