Cromwell Goodwin Headstone Dedication

Almost 148 years to the day after his death, Cromwell Goodwin, Royal Oak pioneer and veteran of the War of 1812, will finally lie in a marked grave in the Royal Oak Cemetery.

The Royal Oak Historical Commission and the Royal Oak Nature Society will be hosting a ceremony in honor of Mr. Goodwin and both his contribution to our city and his service to our young nation.  This event will take place at 1 P.M. on September 11, 2010 in the northwest section of the Royal Oak Cemetery, located at Main St and 12 Mile Rd.  Participating in this event will be Allan R. Treppa, President of the Michigan Society of the War of 1812 along with several members of his unit of re-enactors.  The headstone was provided by the Veterans Administration.    

Mr. Goodwin owned the land where Royal Oak High School now stands as well as Tenhave Woods.  His daughter was the first burial in this cemetery back in 1826 and he lies beside her in the family’s plot.
